Emma Satchell - End of Life Planning Facilitator and Funeral Celebrant
WHAT IS A
A funeral celebrant is simply someone who prepares and leads a funeral service. Together with the family and friends of the deceased, they create a service to honour the passing of their loved one and celebrate the time they had together.
A celebrant is not tied to any religious tradition, and can help you to deliver a ceremony that is in keeping with the beliefs of your loved one.
The ceremonial farewell of a funeral allows us to share our grief. The rituals involved often depend on cultural or religious influences, but they do not have to be defined by them.
I am an ordained minister so I can offer a fully religious Christian service, or include such elements within a more contemporary Celebration of Life service. However, it is always the influences, beliefs and wishes of you and your loved one which are my primary focus.
I can work with you to find out what is important in your life and the life of your loved one and we can come up with rituals and a ceremony which is perfect for you. Up to now some of these have included throwing liquorice allsorts into a grave, having a tot of whiskey, or even delivering the service dressed as Elvis!
If you are using a funeral director, you can pass on my contact details so they can liaise with me and we can work together to produce a service which is just right for you, including discussing alternative options to traditional burial or cremation. Alternatively, if you do not wish to use a funeral director, I can help to guide you along the steps you might need to take to ensure your loved one's body gets a dignified end.
